Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, modern high-quality films have a self-healing top coat. This layer is made of elastomeric polymers that return to their original shape after being stretched or indented.

How it works: When the film is exposed to heat (like direct sunlight, warm water, or a heat gun), minor scratches and swirl marks disappear.

The limit: It is effective for surface-level abrasions from car washes or road grit. However, if a scratch is deep enough to penetrate the top coat (usually about 13 microns deep), it will not heal.

A professionally installed, high-quality PPF usually lasts between 5 to 10 years. The actual lifespan depends on several factors:

Environmental Exposure: Cars kept in garages last significantly longer than those constantly exposed to high UV rays or harsh coastal salt air.

Maintenance: Regular washing with pH-neutral soap and avoiding high-pressure sprayers directly on the edges will extend the film’s life.

Quality of Film: Our brand (XPEL) offer warranties against yellowing, cracking, or bubbling for up to a decade.

If the film was applied to original factory paint and is removed correctly by a professional, it should not damage the paint.

The Adhesive: PPF uses semi-permanent acrylic adhesives designed to bond strongly but remain removable.

Removal Process: Professionals use steamers or heat guns to soften the adhesive, allowing the film to pull away cleanly without leaving residue or lifting the clear coat.

A Note on Repainted Cars: If a car has been repainted and the new paint didn’t bond properly to the panel, there is a higher risk of “paint pulling” during removal.
